This design mentions the most shameful gang rape that occured at Big Dan's Tavern on Belleville Ave in New Bedford. This story was made famous by its film adaptaion starring Jodie Foster who played Cheryl Ann Araujo. A bar full of Portugeese Immigrants from the neighborhood 6 men raped a 21 year old women while others 12-15 watched on and some cheered. The trial was televised in 1984 and four of the six were convicted. This was and is a shameful stain on the city and Portugeese community.
